But this really doesn't seem worth the effort. Considering the pi only has 256/512/1024mb of memory to begin with, swap (SD-card swap) will almost certainly be involved, reducing your pi to the performance of a slug.Īnything is possible I suppose. This will push your pi literally to the limit, leaving little room to do what is actually intended (downloading steam games). In order to use that steamcmd, you'll need to provide it with a fully functional x86 environment to work with, all emulated by a ARM cpu. Now with the Pi 3, it's energy usage is approaching energy efficient Intel based laptops without coming close to that level of performance.įurthermore, I think it's already been mentioned that Pi uses an ARM architecture, and is thus likely incompatible with anything Valve/Steam has to offer, such as steamcmd.Įmulation IS possible, but not desirable. The Pi 2 was a massive improvement, but used a LOT more power. The Pi 1B was an improvement, but used more power. But it also was terrible performance wise. And the energy savings is not all that compared to a mini itx PC, which would blow it out of the water performance wise. I'm pretty sure the nic card shares the same USB bus as the keyboard, mouse, any HD's you have hooked up, etc. But data transport is not the Raspberry Pi's strong suit. ( TO LOWER MY ELECTRIC BILL ) Okay I get it now. So i have an idea about using raspberry pi to download steam-games and bring it to pc to install it. The problem is when i want to download a big game like GTA V, i have to use my pc to download it overnight.
